O.S. ThinTerminal
O.S. ThinTerminal is an resource-wise optimized operating system for thin clients. Being designed for low processing power, small memory and small storage capacity machines, it contains only the software necessary to start and maintain a remote connection with a server.
Different from O.S. ThinDesktop, where a local desktop system is loaded, with user applications and connection protocols, the goal of the O.S. ThinTerminal is to be just a connector, with minimum resource usage. It can be used on machines with 64MB of RAM, 32MB of storage and processing power as low as 300MHz, and it is still able to boot fast and load a remote desktop in less than 10 seconds.
O.S. ThinTerminal launches a remote connection as soon as the graphical environment is started, which is preconfigured by the system administrator. Once configured, the client device will not require updates, reconfiguration or reinstallation.
The remote connection protocol currently supported is Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) provided by the Microsoft Windows Terminal Services, making O.S. ThinTerminal the ideal solution for Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) based on RDP: environments where thin clients are used to connect users to their respective remote workspaces and remote desktops. XDMCP support is planned and will be available soon. A list of capabilities and features of the system can be checked out below:
